Weird Al Yankovic

Now lookie here people, listen to this story about a man named Jed, I mean Al...Weird Al that is.  He is known for his parody of songs which has earned him 3 Grammy's, 4 Gold and 6 Platinum records.  His first official hit was in 1979, My Bologna (My Sharona).  Weird Al was at Northern Lights Theater, at Potawatomi Casino this past Saturday and thanks to Kathy, well really thanks to Bob (Entertainment Manager for Potawatomi Bingo Casino), we were invited to come see him perform and what a great show it was.
It started with a video clip of a medley of songs including Polka Face (Poker Face) and then Weird Al bounded on stage.  His enthusiasm carried throughout the whole show.  I can't remember the exact order of everything but he sang all or parts of Eat It (Beat It), Ebay (I Want It That Way), Amish Paradise (Gangsta's Paradise), Lasagna (La Bamba), Spiderman or Ode to a Super Hero (Piano Man), Spam (REM Stand), Smells Like Nirvana (Smells Like Teen Spirit), Party in the CIA, (USA) Theme Rocky X111(Eye of the Tiger), White & Nerdy(Ridin), Fat (Bad), and Money for Nothing/BeverlyHills (Money for Nothing).  Between costume changes there would be video clips of his interviews with famous people (who are not really being interviewed by him), and his name or reference in many, many sitcoms and movies from the Simpsons to Friends which shows how iconic Weird Al Yankovic is.

Here I took a a picture of the video screen, Weird Al jumps off the stage and moves around the audience singing , Scott and I are on his right.  (stupid streamer)

Then an encore included Yoda (Lola)  During this number, Weird Al asked a member of the audience to sing the chorus, when the guy said, no thanks, Al said, "Its easy, Its Yoda, Yoda Yooooda" the guy said "thanks no" and Al said, "I've got all night" everyone laughs...so the guy sang.  This was followed by The Saga Begins (American Pie) with Star Wars Characters about Episode 1.

Weird Al has endless energy.  He jumps, kicks, squats, dances while singing on stage.  Except for the longer hair, and slightly lighter color and contacts now instead of glasses, he looks very much like his early personna.  Very entertaining show.  I highly recommend taking in this show the next time he is at Potawatomi.

After the concert, Bob allowed us to stay and meet Al.  While waiting, I was able to try on Darth Vader's helmut.  Also so cool!  Al was honestly, a very sweet guy.  Soft spoken and very friendly.

What a cool rememberance from a fun night!
